You Can Make a Difference
We have been receiving lots of messages and inquiries from people who want to help. Here are the more urgent ways you can make a difference and help animals in our care:
- Foster or Adopt a Pet. When you foster you provide temporary care for a dog or cat and create lifesaving space in our shelters for injured, lost, and homeless animals with nowhere else to go; and when you adopt, you are giving that animal a second chance to be in a loving home.
- Monetary donations. This is the best way to help animals in times of an emergency as it ensures we will be able to access necessary resources to provide support.
- Volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering, please go to our Volunteer page.
- Donate pet food. We accept unopened canned and dry pet food at any of our six LA Animal Services shelters, and at the three Pet Food Pantry locations in Chesterfield Square/South LA (1850 W. 60th St., LA 90047), East Valley (14409 Vanowen St., Van Nuys 91405), and North Central (3201 Lacy St., LA 90031).
The Department of Animal Services has several special funds set-up to accept individual gifts, donations, and bequests, that have been established within the Treasury of the City of Los Angeles to augment established programs and activities of the Department.
All donations are tax-deductible under IRS Code 170(c)(1) because LA Animal Services is a department of a municipal government.
You may donate by cash, check, or credit card by visiting one of our local animal shelters, or you can mail a money order or check to the Administrative Office, payable to:
LA Animal Services, ATTENTION: Ani
221 N. Figueroa Street, Suite 600, Mail Stop #105
Los Angeles, CA 90012.
Donations made by mail or directly at an animal shelter can also be donated specifically for use at one of the animal shelters.
Even if you cannot make a financial contribution today, there are other ways you an help. Our animal shelters always need blankets, toys, and other items on our Wish Lists. And of course we always need volunteers!
Donations to the Animal Welfare Trust Fund enhance the quality of life for shelter and other animals by funding animal supplies, medical equipment, improvements to Animal Shelters and other animal welfare-related projects undertaken by the Department of Animal Services.
The Spay/Neuter Trust Fund helps provide low-cost and no-cost spay and neutering services for pets in low-income households by contracting with mobile and stationary spay and neuter clinics.
The Community Pet Food Pantry is a resource to ensure there is pet food available to assist owners who need help feeding their animal companions. The Community Pet Food Pantry will be based out of our East Valley and Chesterfield Square Animal Services Centers.
LA Animal Services is grateful for the support of the community. Your donations helps our shelter pets, staff and volunteers tremendously!
