LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25, 2025 – Today is World Spay Day, and with February also being National Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, LA Animal Services reminds pet owners of the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. LA Animal Services makes it easy for Angelenos to ensure their pets get spayed or neutered with free certificates or low-cost coupons. To receive your certificate or coupon, please visit laspayneuter.com or stop by any of our six LA Animal Services Centers today.
Spaying and neutering helps control the pet population by preventing unwanted pregnancies in pets. It reduces the number of stray animals, which can lead to less overcrowding in shelters and fewer instances of euthanasia. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters each year in the United States, and spaying/neutering can significantly decrease this number.
“There are also many health benefits in spaying and neutering your pet,” said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services. “Not only does spaying and neutering help prevent unwanted litters, it discourages roaming and your pet wanting to leave your home, as well as lowers certain cancers, including testicular cancer in male dogs, and pyometra in female dogs, which can be fatal.”
