How to Help LA Animal Services

There are many ways you can help LA Animal Services and the pets in our care. Here are a few examples:

If you discover that your lost pet is at one of our centers, please stop by asap during operating hours to redeem your pet.

In order to redeem your pet, you must present proof of ownership. Proof may include photos, vaccination records, or adoption certificates, among others. You also must present a valid form of government-issued photo identification (i.e. drivers license).

A lost pet does not immediately need to be taken to a shelter.

If you found a lost animal in your community, here are some things you can do to give them the best chance for a happy reunion with their family.

Register the found pet on Petco Love Lost

Go to Petco Love Lost the free searchable national database that uses patented image recognition technology and register the found pet.

Utilize social media

Report the found pet on Pawboost or upload a photo and description on social media platforms that focus on your neighborhood like LA City Lost and Found Pets and Nextdoor.com.

Shelter-at-Home
If you are able to temporarily care for a found pet via Shelter-at-Home, you must notify the closest LA Animal Services Center, send in two or more pictures of the animal, and have them scanned for a microchip within the first four hours of finding the pet. Learn more about Shelter-at-Home here.

If you cannot care for the lost pet
Please bring the pet to the shelter closest to where you found them click here to open our shelter locator tool.

The six LA Animal Services Centers are open Tuesday through Friday from 8am - 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Centers are closed Mondays and City-observed holidays.

Our shelters are filled with pets ready to meet you and be a part of your family. To view the pets available for adoption, click here.

A government-issued identification (driver's license, state ID, passport) with your name and photo is required to adopt a pet.

LA Animal Services Centers accept payment by cash, check, or credit card (name on credit card must match the name on the photo identification).

If you can't adopt but have time to spare for a short-term commitment, fostering can help provide the shelter space, and give a pet a home enviornment to thrive in.

Sign up to foster today by clicking here.

Volunteers in the shelter spend time with our animals to help them feel safe and significantly reduce their fear, anxiety, and stress. They also help shelter visitors meet their new furry friend. Sign up today to become a volunteer at laanimalservices.com/about-volunteering.
