POSTPONED: Big Dog Walk for Life & Shelter Clean-up
Dear Supporter,
LA Animal Services has made the decision to postpone the large-scale Big Dog Walk for Life and Shelter Clean Up event that was scheduled on June 22 to ensure we maximize assistance to animals in our shelters while keeping our animals, volunteers, and staff safe.
We deeply appreciate the enthusiastic response to the Big Dog Walk for Life and Shelter Clean Up event, and we look forward to reimagining it this Fall with all of you. We will keep you informed of new developments and look forward to coming together for an exciting and successful event.
Please remember that, even without a large group event, dog walking happens every day in the shelters, and those who are new to this can still sign up to get trained on safe handling and taking dogs out for exercise.
I want to emphasize how grateful we are to those dedicated individuals who have already signed up to volunteer for this opportunity to help LA Animal Services animals in our care. As we work on the next steps to plan the Fall event, there are still plenty of opportunities to show your support – and as many of you know, our shelters need your support. Now is the perfect time to sign up to volunteer, foster, adopt, and donate, all of which can make a difference in the lives of the pets in our care.
Thank you again for all that you do.

Volunteer. Volunteers in the shelter spend time with our animals to help them feel safe and significantly reduce their fear, anxiety, and stress.
Foster to save lives during the 4th of July. Take part in the 4 Weeks for Life foster program to give a pet a temporary home outside of the shelter during the holiday. The 4th of July is a very busy time for animal shelters, with countless pets being brought in that escape due to fear and stress from fireworks. Fostering during this time helps make space for the influx of animals.
Adopt NOW from LA Animal Services. We need our animal-loving community to help by adopting an animal now. When you adopt from LA Animal Services, animals will be vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, given flea treatment and other treatments to ensure their health.
Spay & Neuter your pets. The city provides discounts and full-cost vouchers to help people to take steps to avoid unwanted litters. Animals that have not been fixed can contribute to overpopulation and crowding at the shelters. Find voucher information by going to laspayneuter.com
Microchip your pets. The 4th of July holiday and the days that follow are the busiest times for LA Animal Services Centers. The loud noises and bright lights caused by fireworks frighten pets causing them to escape their homes and end up in City shelters. To ensure lost pets are reunited with their families, LA Animal Services will be offering free microchips for pets, starting June 22 through July 3. You can visit any of the six LA Animal Services Centers to get your pet microchipped.

Donate and make a difference. Some animals come to the shelter injured or with extensive medical needs. The Special Treatment and Recovery (STAR) program helps support the care these animals need and deserve. It ensures that our New Hope partners and adopters have the resources to provide for animals with greater needs.
