Here are some animals which you can help:

Winona (A943479)

I am an 8-year old female poodle. I came to the South LA Animal Care Center very scared and wanting to bite everyone that came near me. The medical staff realized right away that I was suffering from cataracts in both my eyes and was completely blind. I also had a really bad abscess on the side of my face that required sedation to treat. Now that I am feeling better I am very sweet and loving. Thanks to the Star Program I was able to get the treatment needed to make me feel better so that I could be the sweet dog I am. Don’t forget, I am a perfect candidate for the Seniors-4-Seniors Program! Please continue to donate to the STAR Program to help more dogs like me.

POPS (A927045)

In February, 2008, the South LA Animal Care Center received a call about a dog located on a dead end street bleeding from the face. When the officers arrived, they found an older dog, emaciated and bleeding from the side of the face. They brought it to the private vet for evaluation and treatment, and then transported him to the So. LA Animal Care Center. I am that dog! It turns out that my OWNER had hit me in the head with a hammer!! Can you imagine? My name is "Pops" and I am a sweet, 8-year old Chow chow.

Since I have been at South LA, I get lots of love and attention, and I have healed nicely from my wound and even gained weight. I am a great candidate for the Seniors-4-Seniors Program and I am looking for a great new home with a caring family. My previous owner is facing animal cruelty and criminal prosecution, thanks to the Animal Cruelty Task Force. Please donate to the STAR Program to help older dogs like me who are victims of abuse, receive the extended care and treatment that they need. If you are ready to adopt, I am waiting for you!

(A944852)

I am a very sweet, one-year old kitty that was brought to the West Valley Animal Care Center as a stray. Upon examination, the West Valley vet staff found a big open wound on my throat area. They were able to clip & clean the area and start me on medication, but they say that I will definitely need surgical intervention to remove unwanted tissue around the wound & possibly place drains. Post surgical wound management will be more intensive than usual, but given the right course of treatment, they are sure that I will recover well & be ready to be adopted to a good household. Please donate to the STAR Program to help cats like me have a chance to live all of his/her 9 lives!

Claudia (A932288)

I am a very friendly, spayed, 2-year old, Labrador/Staff mix. I was lost and wandering the streets when a friendly animal control officer brought me to the Harbor Animal Care Center. I am very healthy, but I squint my eyes a lot. The medical team says I was born with bilateral entropion, an eye condition where my eyelids are turned inwards. The veterinarian says only surgery will help me to live life without the discomfort in my eyes, I now am patiently awaiting my surgery. I have already won the hearts of many of my caretakers who say that I walk nicely on the leash and even sit on command. Please donate to the STAR Program to help pay for my surgery and to help give other dogs like me a second chance.

Tiny (A941508)

I am a 2-year old Chihuahua that was brought to the Emergency Animal Hospital. The vets suspect that I had been hit by a car. I had several injuries and I was very grumpy and in pain. I had to have my tail amputated but now I am on the road to a full recovery! Please donate to the STAR Program to help the little guys!

Brandy (A939024)

I am a 3-year old Chihuahua mix. I was brought to the North Central Animal Care Center because I had been bitten by another dog. I had wounds on my right cheek, neck and shoulder area. The nice medical staff at North Central has been treating my wounds ever since and continue medicating them daily. It will take a while for my wounds to heal because they are very deep but with some time and patience I should fully recover. Donations to the STAR Program help pups like me receive the extended treatment that they need

Lovely (A943450)

I am an older dog in need of your love. I am an approximately 8-year old, female, Shih Tzu. I was found wandering the streets and made my way to the West Valley Animal Care Center. I have severe dental disease, including gum recession and some loose and missing teeth. I will need to have dentistry and a few teeth extracted to help me feel better. I would like to meet you and would make a great Seniors-4-Seniors candidate. You can also make donations to the STAR Program to help me and my friends that need a little extra care to help us live long, healthy lives.

Tater (A935760)

I am a 12-year old, male, Miniature Pincher that was brought to the West Valley Animal Care Center as a stray. I having missing teeth and my vision is a bit cloudy. I have dental disease and will need to have additional dental work. I get along great with other dogs, but what I love best is to be held and sit on your lap. I am a great candidate for the Seniors-4-Seniors program and would make a very sweet companion. Please donate to the STAR Program to help senior dogs like me receive the extra medical treatment they need to help age-related problems.

Poquito (A943585)

Holla mi nombre is Poquito. I am a very cute and lovable, 3-month old, toy Chihuahua. A good citizen brought me to the East Valley Animal Care Center when I was found wandering the streets of Sun Valley. The medical staff examined and treated the wounds on my hind legs and started treatment on my skin condition. I would really be thankful if you would donate to the STAR Program, which helps pups like me receive extra medical care.

Bob (A941203)

I am a black and white, cute 7-year old, neutered, cat that was brought to the West Valley Animal Care Center as a stray. Unfortunately I did not know that I should have been taking care of my teeth when I was young, and now I need to see a dentist. I have misaligned incisors and canine teeth and severe gingivitis. I probably will need to have several teeth extracted to make me feel better. I am a great candidate for the Seniors-4-Seniors program and would make a great companion. Please make a donation to the STAR Program to help senior animals like me receive the dental treatment that they need to feel like healthy kittens again!

Sabrina (A943898)

I am an older cat in need of your love. I am an approximately 11-year old, spayed female, DSH. My owners had to move and brought me to the West Valley Animal Care Center. I am a geriatric cat and have dental disease. I will need to have dentistry and a few teeth extracted to help me feel better. I would like to meet you and would make a great Seniors-4-Seniors candidate. I am a great cat that likes other people and other cats. You can also make donations to the STAR Program to help me and my friends that need a little extra care to help us live long, healthy lives.

Sonny (A877360)

I am a 1-year 2 month old, neutered, Chihuahua mix that was adopted form the South LA Animal Care Center when I was a puppy, however my owners decided to surrender me to South LA one year later. I have carpal hyperflexion, which means that the tendons in my front paws are so taut that I can not put my paw pads on the ground. This of course limits the amount that I can move around. I am a little shy, but I am very adoptable! With surgery, I have a great chance to lead a normal life. I really need your help! Please make a donation to the STAR Program to help little guys like me get the orthopedic surgery that they need.

(A942615)

I am a 3-month old, male, Chihuahua puppy that was brought to the West Valley Animal Care Center in a very weak state. I had a prolapsed rectum and was severely dehydrated. The medical staff thinks I may have giardia. The vet at West Valley performed surgery on me and now I am resting and receiving supportive care. Donations to the STAR Program help pups like me receive the lifesaving medical care that they need. Please donate today!

Simon (A940723)

I am a neutered, 3-year old, Terrier mix that was surrendered to the North Central Animal Care Center by my owners because they could not afford the cost of my medical care. I was hit by a care and suffered a broken pelvis. I am resting comfortably now and on painkillers, but I do not want to put any pressure on my hind legs. I have a very sweet and gentle disposition despite being injured and my previous owners say that I am great with other people and children. I will need orthopedic evaluation and most likely need to have surgery to repair my injuries. Please donate to the STAR Program to help dogs like me have a second chance to stand on all fours again!

Grace (A941875)

I am a female, German shepherd mix, approximately 2-years of age. I was brought in to the East Valley animal shelter as a stray. There was a chain placed around my neck that was so tight that I have a very deep laceration around my entire neck where the chain was cutting through my throat. The ACT”s cut the chain with bolt cutters and the medical staff assessed my condition right away. They gave me pain medication and clipped and cleaned my wounds. The Veterinarian is going to perform surgery to repair my throat and neck. I am a very brave and loving dog despite the condition I was found in. I wagged my tail the entire time! I look forward to healing and being adopted by a loving person or family. Please donate to the Star Program to help fund the medical costs for me and other dogs and cats in need.

Fauna (A941048)

I am a very sweet and affectionate, 1-year old, long haired Chihuahua. I was brought into the East Animal Care Center with trauma to my right eye. Despite my painful injury, I still love to give kisses and affection to my caregivers. I have been told by the medical staff, that my eye has to be surgically removed. I am currently on pain medication and antibiotics while I am awaiting my surgery. Please donate to the STAR Program to help pay for my surgery and to help give more dogs like me a second chance; we will surely reward you with lot of affection!

Mr. Magoo (A939887)

I am very active, tan, 12-year old male Chihuahua. I was found wandering around the busy streets of West Valley. Luckily, a good Samaritan found me and took me to the West Valley Animal Care Center. I have cataracts and severe dental disease, but I still manage to get around using my keen other senses. I am a great candidate for the Seniors-4-Seniors Program! Please help me and my friends by donating to the STAR Program today. I can also use your help to find a great home.

Jack (A939136)

I am a male, 3-year old, Jack Russell Terrier mix. A nice officer picked me up from the Goldline station tracks. I was all beat up with a bloody nose and swollen eyes. I couldn't walk straight because I was too wobbly and unbalanced. The nice medical staff at North Central Animal Care Center quickly connected me to an I.V. and gave me fluids, painkillers, medicine for the swelling and TLC. By the fifth day I was able to walk without falling and I was eating and even asking to be let out of my cage to go potty.
I still have a little weakness on my left side and it's not clear whether or not I will ever be 100% again, but I am comfortable and happy. I just need a good family to love me. Your donations to the STAR Program make it possible for injured animals like me to get the emergency services that we need. Please make a contribution today!

Brandy (A939024)

I am a 3-year old, Chihuahua Pug mix. I came in to North Central Animal Care Center after I had been bitten by another dog. I was wounded on my right cheek, neck and shoulder area. The nice medical staff has been treating my wounds and giving me antibiotics daily. It will take a while for my wounds to heal because they are very deep, but with some time and patience, I should fully recover. Please help me find a home or donate to the STAR Program to help little dogs like me have a chance to receive treatment so that they can live healthy, happy, lives!

Erap (A940189)

I’m a playful, 1.5-year old, male, black Labrador retriever. I was brought to the East Valley Animal Care Center by a nice Animal Control Officer who found me walking the streets of the Valley injured. I have a wound on the right armpit and a bad injury on my right back leg. I am being sent for x-rays to help the vet staff better assess my injuries. Please donate to the Star Program to help me and others who need help get the diagnostic treatment and medications they need to live happy, healthy lives!

Mitzi (A872220)

I am a very sweet 10-year old German Shepherd. I came to the West Valley Animal Care Center after originally being taken to the emergency hospital when I suffered trauma from possibly being hit by a car. My family could not financially take care of me anymore and they decided to surrender me to West Valley. The veterinarian and medical staff here at West Valley cared for my injuries, and after several weeks I am finally able to walk without having bandages on my legs. I am a little older so my walking is still slow, but I am improving every day. I would like to meet you and would make a great Seniors-4-Seniors candidate. You can also make donations to the STAR program to help me and my friends that need a little extra care to help us live long, healthy lives.

Timmy (A938400)

I am a playful 10-month old, male Terrier. I was brought to the South LA Animal Care Center suffering from a bad infestation of fleas and ticks. I was treated for that problem and went up for adoption. A couple of days after being in the shelter, I developed an upper respiratory infection, like so many of us at the shelter do. Thanks to donations from the STAR Program, I am able to get the medications needed to make me all better. Please continue to donate to the STAR program so the animals like me can get all they need to make them better and find new loving homes.

Dodger (A939906)

I am a male, 1-year old, Boxer. On a very hot day this month an Animal Control Officer from the East Valley Animal Care Center saw me limping down the street and brought me to the medical department where the R.V.T. assessed my injuries. X-rays of my left front leg found out that both of the bones in my lower leg were broken. Ouch! The technicians gave me pain medication and splinted my leg to stabilize the fracture. The vet says that I need orthopedic surgery to repair the broken bones. I am a very good candidate for that kind of surgery because I am young, strong and very brave…not to mention very handsome and I LOVE people! Please donate to the STAR Program to help fund the operation required for my recovery to live a healthy happy life that I would love to share with a great new family. I can’t wait to meet you, and I promise to thank you with lots of kisses!

Snow White (A939770)

I am 1-year old, female Poodle that may have been hit by a car while wandering around the busy streets of the West Valley. I was taken to the nearest emergency hospital but they could not find anything wrong with me. Later, under the watchful eyes of RVTs at the West Valley Animal Care Center, they noticed that I had pain in my neck and sent me for X-rays. These revealed a possible fracture in one of my neck bones. If adopted, I will need to go to a orthopedic specialist. Right now the vet staff is giving me strong pain medication and keeping me comfortable. They also gave me a haircut to get rid of my badly matted fur. Please donate to the STAR Program to help pay for my ongoing treatment needs and to help give more dogs like me a second chance at life!

Shaggy (A937897)

Hi! I am a 12-year old, spayed, Australian Shepherd mix. My owner brought me to the West Valley Animal Care Center because they said that they didn’t have time for me. It has been a difficult transition after 12 years in the same home and I've been depressed since my arrival. The medical team at West Valley submitted my blood work to a laboratory and they found that my thyroxine level was low. I need to take that hormone for the rest of my life, also I need to lose a couple of pounds. I am a perfect candidate for the Seniors-4-Seniors Program! Please help me find a good home, or help me and my friends by donating to the STAR Program today.

Chubby (A850455)

I am a 3-year old German Shepherd mix who came to the West Valley Animal Care Center because his owner lost his home. Sadly, my name is a little too descriptive as I can be described as morbidly obese - easily 40-50 lbs. overweight. Initial lab work performed about a year ago indicated elevated liver enzyme & white blood cell values. That might not be too far off for an older dog but I am only 3 & shouldn't be having this problem this early in life, if at all. The doctors suspect metabolic problems & will need a more thorough lab workup to find out what the actually problem is in order to provide me with the necessary treatment. Diet alone is not enough and if I don’t lose weight soon, my condition will lead to more complications such as diabetes & joint problems.
I’m a good boy & eager to please anybody. Please help me find a loving family that understands my needs or donate to the STAR Program to help continue my treatment and help me live a full life like the young dog that I really am!

Jenny (A939409)

I am a 4-month old, female, American Staffordshire puppy that was brought to the West LA Animal Care Center as a stray. I was non weight bearing on my left front leg and the staff sent me for x-rays that determined I have a fractured elbow. I will require surgery to repair the fracture. I also exhibit signs of a possible birth defect in all four of my limbs. I am a sweet little girl that would love a chance to have a happy life in a loving home. Please donate to the STAR Program to help pay for my surgery or help me find a caring family to adopt and love me

Jaspar (A938639)

I'd like to nominate myself, Jasper, for your STAR program. At 17 lbs I can fit into anyone's lifestyle. I came to the North Central Animal Care Center as a stray and I'm easily amused by others as well as amusing to myself. However my old broken leg is just not funny. I'm a 5-month old, male, Jack Russell Terrier puppy, so I'm quick to train. I think with a little help from an orthopedic surgeon, I could make someone really happy. Please donate to the STAR Program to help pups like me!

Baron (A939612)

I am a fun, energetic, 4-month old, male Chihuahua. I was brought to the South LA Animal Care Center missing fur in many places over my entire body. After the medical staff at the shelter examined me, they found that I had a mite on my skin called demodetic mange that was causing my fur to fall out. I have started my treatments for the condition, but I have a long way to go to make a full recovery. I need a loving home with someone who can continue my treatments. Please donate to the STAR Program so I and others like me can receive the medical attention that we need.

Flakes (A939297)

I’m a little 6 lb., white, female, one-year old, terrier mix that found my way to the North Central Animal Care Center. I had a homemade bandage on my right hindleg that was hiding a dangling, smashed and bruised leg. X-rays confirmed a bad fracture that will ultimately need an orthopedic surgeon's evaluation for possible orthopedic surgery. Won't you please help with the cost for this surgery? Please donate to the STAR Program so that I can have the use of my leg back and give a sweet little girl a second chance!

Jimmy (A935947)

I am a very energetic and friendly 5-year old, neutered, Golden Retriever who was brought to East Valley Animal Care Center as a stray, with a non-weight bearing left rear leg and a few minor superficial abrasions on my body. I was examined by the East Valley medical staff and sent to a private veterinarian for X-rays. My radiograph shows I have a luxated left coxofemoral joint, which will require surgical repair so that I am able to properly walk and run again. I am currently taking pain medication and on cage rest and feeling a lot better. Please be generous and donate to the Star Program to help me and other pets with orthopedic problems enjoy a pain-free life again. I will be a very loving companion to any family who is willing to care for me and help with my recovery. Thank you so much in advance!

Trixie (A940207)

I’m a 4-year old, female, gray tabby. I was brought to the East Valley Animal Care Center after I was taken to a private veterinary clinic for my injuries. Apparently the lady who saw me being hit by a car took me to the veterinary clinic where they found out that I have a broken jaw. The good news is that sweet lady wants to adopt me when I become available, but she’s going to need help in the cost of the surgery to help heal my injuries. So I’m kindly asking if there are other nice citizens out there who would be willing to donate to the STAR Program to help me and other cats that will need medical support so that they can fine loving, forever homes. Please help!

Cusco (A939311)

I am a 5-month old, brindle, Catahoula puppy. I was brought to the South LA Animal Care Center with puncture wounds on my forehead, a swollen face, bleeding from my nose and mouth and a slight limp in my left hind leg. I was either involved in a dog fight or hit by a car. I was in a lot of pain and wouldn’t let the vet staff examine me, but the good doctors at South LA were very patient! Under their care, I am transformed and I am feeling much calmer and even allow them to touch me and treat my wounds without sedation. I am still favoring my hind leg, but an x-ray shows that there is no fracture. I am an active pup and would love to find a fun family who will devote time and play with me. Please donate to the STAR Program to help more stray pups like me receive the treatment and care they need!

Foxy (A939751)

I am a female German Shepherd of unknown age that was surrendered by my owner to the West Valley Animal Care Center because they were moving and could not take me with them. I was pregnant and my uterus was severely infected, so the vet staff had to perform emergency surgery to save my life. I will need additional treatment and surgery to help me be 100%. Please donate to the STAR Program to help assist with my recovery!

Angie (A939931)

I am a 1 ½ -year old, female, Chihuahua. I was brought to the East Valley Animal Care Center by a nice woman who found me in her front yard. I was unable to walk because both of my lower front legs were broken. No one really knows how it happened. The employees at East Valley took care of me right away! They gave me pain medication and transported me to the Emergency Animal Clinic for x-rays. The technicians placed splints on both of my legs and covered them with pretty pink wrap. Everyone at East Valley says that I am very brave and that I am very sweet and loving. I have a lot of love to give to any person, or family with children. I feel much better now even though the doctor says that I need surgery to repair my legs. I know I can’t run around and play today, but I look forward to that day when I can again. Please donate the STAR Program to help fund the orthopedic surgery required for my recovery. I will be a wonderful companion for many years. Thank you for giving me a chance. I can hardly wait to meet you!

Bambi (A935965)

I am a 1½-year old, male, Jack Russel Terrier/ Chihuahua mix that was brought as a stray to the East Valley Animal Care Center. I am limping on my hind legs, which appears to be the result of an old injury. I will need orthopedic surgery to help me walk again without any problems. Please help a little guy out and donate to the STAR Program to help me receive the surgery I need!

Chico (A938884)

I am a 3-year old American Staffordshire Terrier that was surrendered to West Valley Animal Care Center by my owner when I became ill. The vets think that I have Pyoderma, which is a bacterial skin infection. I am very friendly with people, children and other dogs. I LOVE to play and I even like getting baths! I am being treated with antibiotics right now and I am doing well. I will be on medication for a while though, so I need a loving supporter to donate to the STAR Program to help pay for the ongoing treatment that I need.

Myra (A917433)

I am a sweet 9-year old cat who was abandoned at the West Valley Animal Care Center in December of 2007. That makes me the kitty that has been at this shelter the longest. I have severe periodontal disease and recently had dentistry that included having many of my teeth extracted. I am currently on medication, and with a little time and attention, will continue to heal. I am friendly and would make a perfect Seniors-4-Seniors candidate. You can also make donations to the STAR program to help me and my friends that need a little extra care to help us live long, healthy lives.

Chewy (A808347)

I am a 3-year old, neutered, German Shepherd that was initially impounded at the West Valley Animal Care Center as an evidence animal in a cruelty investigation. I had an open wound on my right rear leg (metatarsal area) and was taken to a private vet for x-rays. I was found to have an infection in my bone due to an old fracture. The doctors were concerned that I might have cancer as well. I was pretty miserable and difficult to handle at first, but the West Valley staff never gave up on me and kept me comfortable. Fast forward 9 weeks, and my wound is almost completely healed! I am more comfortable and friendlier. The vets think I am a good candidate for further diagnostic procedures so cancer can be ruled out and treatment be done accordingly. Everyone here says that I have blossomed into a wonderful dog and will make a great addition to any home. Please donate to the STAR Program to help pay for my ongoing treatment needs and to help give more dogs like me a second chance at life.

Rollie (A936736)

I am an affable 6-year old, black, Welsh Corgi that was brought as a stray to the East Valley Animal Care Center. Unfortunately, I managed to break my front right leg while I was wandering the streets of Van Nuys. The East Valley vet staff made sure I received treatment and now I am resting my bandaged leg and on a diet. However, I will need orthopedic surgery to be able to walk without problems. Please donate to the STAR Program to help with the repair of my front leg. A new home also would be greatly appreciated!

Hugs (A927848)

I am a cute, 1-year old, female, black & white, Labrador Retriever mix that was found wandering lost with my sister, Kisses. When we were brought to the West Valley Animal Care Center, we had severe demodectic mange. The kind people at West Valley have been caring for us and continue to give us medication and special medicated baths. We are still healing and with a little time and attention, we will do great. If you are interested in adopting me, please stop by and meet me! You can also make donations to the STAR program to help me and my friends that need a little extra care to help us live long, healthy lives.

Benny (A936017)

I am a cute 4-month old German Shepherd puppy that was found wandering around Highland Park. I was brought to the North Central Animal Care Center with sarcoptic mange all over my body. The vet staff at North Central gave me a special medicated bath and started me on meds right away. With a little healing time and treatment, I will do great! Please donate to the STAR program to help pups like me receive the loving treatment that they need to help them find a adoptive forever home!

Todd (A933996)

I am a male, Am Staff Terrier that was brought to the North Central Animal Care Center by the LAPD. I came in with a chronic fracture of my right hind leg and an oozing wound. I clearly have been nursing this injury for a long time because my leg is twisted and deformed. The vet staff at North Central thinks that I am a really sweet boy and they are taking good care of me. However, I will most likely need to have my leg amputated. Please donate to the STAR Program so that I can receive the surgery and treatment that I need to make me a happy boy again!

Bunsen (A930339)

I am a 2-year old, Finnish Spitz/ Golden Retriever mix. I am a very nice dog who likes everyone! I was brought to the East Valley Animal Care Center with a severe prolapsed rectum, puncture wounds, and tapeworms. The vet staff at East Valley never gave up on me and I had to have multiple surgeries to correct my medical problems. Now I am eating and well on the road to a recovery. Now I just need a family to provide me with a loving home! Please donate to the STAR Program to help more dogs like that wouldn’t have had a chance, get the surgery and treatment that they need! You make the difference!

Dallas (A896778)

I am an 8-year old, male, Belgian Tervuren mix. I was brought to the North Central Animal Care Center in August 2007. No one ever came to claim me. I am very sweet and gentle. I know that they can’t keep me at the shelter forever-I need a home! I had a hematoma on my ear, but the vets took care of me. I am a perfect candidate for the Seniors for Seniors program. Please help me find a home ASAP or donate to the STAR Program to help more senior dogs like me have a chance!

Henry (A929042)

I am a 6-year old, brindle, male, Boxer German Shepard mix that was caught in Lincoln Heights and brought to the North Central Animal Care Center. I must have escaped from a bad situation because I have necrosis around my entire neck which is a result of prolonged pressure from a too tight collar. I am a very friendly boy and I love to play! I would love to find a fun family to adopt me. Please donate to the STAR program so that I can receive the treatment I need to make my exterior match my sparkling personality!

Gabe (A928647)

I am a good-looking, 5-year old, neutered, male pit-bull. No one really knows my story, but I was found on the 2 Freeway, a possible hit and run victim, and brought to an emergency clinic by a good Samaritan. I didn’t appear to have any fractures, so I was sent to the North Central Animal Care Center so that my owners could find me. Although I am active and can walk, my back legs keep giving out on me.  The doctors at North Central think I will be fine with extended rest and possibly some physical therapy to help build up my weak hind quarters. My owners never came to get me. I am a great dog! Won’t you please give me a new home or donate to the STAR program to help me get the rest of the treatment that I need?
